The initial plan was for me to help my friend Barbara with administrative stuff at her English school. I was reasonably well suited for that because I'm kindof an organization freak and I know some stuff about bookkeeping. But shortly after my arrival, Barbara told me that one of her English teachers has taken on that work and is doing a very good job at it. So thanks anyway.....
Then, the plan was to help her husband/my friend Tom at his coffee shop. They've been very busy and could use an extra person. I don't really drink coffee. But I learned some coffee basics and discovered that I really like his peanut butter coffee!!! They brew each cup separately, with timers, french presses, and fancy espresso machines. So we agreed I was best suited, at least initially, to help with background stuff like cleaning tables and washing dishes.
I worked one morning for Tom. It was only moderately busy. But I still felt somewhat useful. And it was really nice to get to know his staff. But Tom has now found a "real" employee. So thanks anyway......
But Tom was very nice when he "fired" me :)
He took me out for breakfast at the museum. Which is on the waterfront. And very nice. And I'd never eaten there but wanted to.
So I'm ok with being fired. Twice! In one week! It gives me more time to help Barbara in her beginner English class. Which is fun! And there isn't much to break there.....
