Goodbye El Bungalow

I'm very sad to say that one of my favourite places, El Bungalow, is closing forever.  Today....

You may recall, El Bungalow is located right on the water in the north end of the city. It's a modest but lovely place.  You could sit upstairs on a large covered balcony.  There were pretty coloured table cloths and a pleasant attention to detail. Or you could sit at the plastic tables below, with your feet in the sand.  Or hang from a hamac in the shade.

Today was the last day for El Bungalow.  And  another place called Shaka, located just a little further north on the same beach.  There are a couple of stories about why they're closing.

The most hopeful is that newer restaurants will be built.  I could live with that. The buildings are a little rudimentary.  The most yucky story is that the government gave the land to the church and the church has sold it to a developer.  And another big hotel will exist on the waterfront.  Keeping locals and visitors with modest means from their own ocean.

I heard about the closings last night.  This morning, I went to El Bungalow to see if it was true.  And to tell the kind staff there how sad I am for us all...

Pictures
1-El Bungalow from the street
2- Some folks I talked to about the closing today.  All are very sad. On the right is the waiter I've had most times that I was there, Ventura.  Luckily, he already has another job lined up.
3- The same gang of folks.  But I wanted to remember what it felt like on the ground floor
4 -   I was taking a picture of this cute bike.  Another waiter I had / talked to today, photobombed my picture.  I had to include it.  He was very matter of fact about the closure. And said see you in our next life.  Sweet.  Comforting in a way.
5 - One of about 400 pictures of pelicans feeding that I took at El Bungalow.  Will they lose their feeding ground too?
