Ayurvedic Massage at Jasmin Villa

There are many places in Negombo to get a massage.  Yay! And a full Ayurvedic spa treatment. What is an Ayurvedic you ask???

Ayurveda means “the science of life”. It's a holistic healing system that started in South Asia over 5,000 years ago. It uses herbs, oils, and diet, emphasizes the harmony of mind, body and spirit, and aims to treat the source of health problems. This indigineous form of healing was suppressed during the British rule in Sri Lanka.  But Ayurveda made a big comeback since Sri Lanka's independence. About 75% of Sri Lankans use it. And there are actually a governmental Department of Ayurveda, an Ayurveda Act, an Ayurveda Research Institute, and Ayurveda hospitals, dispensaries, etc. Who knew?!

We went to an Ayurvedic spa called Jasmin Villa.  Very pretty.  There, we had a 75 minute full body massage for about $15 Canadian.  Lovely!  We could also have chosen to have a head oil application, herbal bath, nasal treatment, or steam bath. I'm not sure about a nasal treatment.  But.  For sure.  No steam bath for me!  I am already sweaty about 24/7 as it is!!

Pictures
1- My massage room was on the second floor and had a really nice  breeze coming through the window.  The treatment started with me sitting in the chair for a head and neck massage.
2- The courtyard at Jasmin Villa.  Very zen.  On our second visit :) there was a big rain storm.  The water poured into the little pool.  Neat!
3- We had tea after our massage!  OK.  That's not the real tea cup we used.  It was just a prop on the coffee table. But fun!
4- I guess the Buddha is cool with Christmas?!
5- The Christmas tree outside of the spa is actually made with lots of clear plastic cups.  I didn't get to see it lit up at night.  I think it would have been neat.
6- Tom came for a massage too and stayed for tea with us.
