Bombay is not in Sri Lanka. It’s in India. Of course!
But many things in Sri Lanka reflect the shared history of these two
countries. One of them is sweets.
Bombay Sweets is a café that specializes in desserts and sweet beverages that originate in India, but are also popular in Sri Lanka. It’s a chain of cafes. The one in downtown Negombo looks like a diner. With stainless steel tables and chairs, vinyl seat covers, and colourful menus and wall decor.
We’ve been to Bombay Sweets in Negombo twice now. I think that might be enough.
On round one, I had a fruit faluda. Basically, an ice cream float, with rose water, sweet syrup, bits of
fruit, chia seeds (I think), and funky pink noodle type sprinkles. Very pretty!!! But over the top sweet!!!! Toby
had a lassie - a smoothie with yogurt, milk, and spices. I liked it.
Toby said he'd had better in India. Apparently, making a good one is an
art.
On round two, I had a nellie crush. Nellies are small round green tart fruits. I don’t think my nellie crush ever saw a real fruit! Soooo sweet! The parts that were diluted by the melting ice cubes were pretty good tho. Toby had a wood apple float. Interesting. But not for me.

1- Bombay Sweets serving counter. So much colour!!!
1a- Bombay Sweets sitting area. Each table has a little garbage can and a cloth for cleaning. Good, But I'm not sure how often they rinse off the clothes.

3- The display of gellies was really pretty!
4- This is a wood apple. The skin is more like a hard shell. The fruit tastes a lot like apple but with an odd tangy taste. Glad I tried it. Not gonna eat lots.5- I think the candy packaging is so cute!
6- Some traditional indian sweets
Looks so good... fabulous different flavors. You must go back and try another. Beautiful colors
