The villa I'm staying in is about 2 blocks from the waterfront. So most days, I go to a waterfront place to swim, gaze, and sometimes nap. One of my favourite places this year is Hotel Cozumel.
Hotel Cozumel has 2 main parts that are separated by a main street. On the waterfront, there is a restaurant, dive shop, and beach area. Across the street, there's the hotel itself and a large swimming pool that's apparently very nice.
Happily, Hotel Cozumel welcomes non-hotel guests to lounge at their beach area, as long as they purchase a beverage and behave nicely. Much like the Blue Angel hotel did last year, but does not anymore.....
I like going to Hotel Cozumel for many reasons: I'm welcome there, it's a ten minute walk from my Villa, there is easy access to the ocean and a nice place for my swims. But the hotel also has some interesting features. The dive shop offers paying guests the opportunity to scoot around the bottom of the sea in these very interesting contraptions. The guest sits on a "chair" and puts their head into this big steel helmet with big googly eyes. The helmet has an air source so the person can breathe underwater in a very unique way. The contraption has a propeller that enables the rider to scoot around. I've only seen people use them once. I'm not really surprised. They are very weird looking!
The other interesting feature is more temporary. It's thong man! A 60 something man with long white wispy hair, a matching mustache that's long enough to reach his collarbone, a black thong, and two tattoos. One on his very visible bum cheek and the other just above his pe......He wears it all well but knows it and struts around very confidently. It's a little like a car accident. You don't really wanna stare, but it's hard not too....
