This morning, the sky was grey, it was a little windy, and there were some swells on the ocean, but nothing that significant. So I still went for a swim. I usually swim back and forth along the shore between the little bay where I enter the water and a pier about 300 m away. I always have a whistle attached to my bathing suit, and a red float attached to my waist for visibility and buoyancy, just in case. It turns out I didn't really need these safety devices, but I was still glad to have them today.
The swells were coming from behind me when I swam out. Easy breezy. But they were in my face coming back. A bit of a pain because it makes advancing harder and increases the odds of swallowing water when I breathe. Kind of a drag....But all was still well. Until I wanted to get out of the water. The little bay has a nice opening you can swim through to get from the open ocean into the bay. It's usually easy to do, but my ongoing concern is getting pushed into the exterior wall of the bay and hitting a sea urchin. They're like a bad splinter if they get into your skin.
When I tried to get into the bay after my swim today, the waves were so strong they were pushing me around, and I couldn't get into the bay on my first or second attempt. Yikes! Happily, there was an alternative. A ladder further down the shore a short distance. There were still big enough waves and a whirlpool effect near the ladder, but I got out on my first attempt. Yay!!
Shortly after I got back to my house, it started to pour rain, and it hasn't stopped since. About 6 hours now. So I've stayed in, done some bookkeeping work and cooked a nice meal. I'm ok with that.
Photos:
Top-my living room has amazing windows! Notice the narrow french doors. They lead to a small balcony.
Middle-my little balcony on the left and my private staircase, which has more balcony space. I like it!
Bottom - my wonderful fajita like dinner. Notice the small pink paring knife in the top left corner of the picture. It's too cute!
